Dialectical Behavioral Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a specialized form of cognitive-behavioral therapy designed to help individuals who struggle with intense emotions, impulsive behaviors, and difficulties in interpersonal relationships. Originally developed to treat borderline personality disorder, DBT has since been adapted to address a variety of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, and trauma. The therapy emphasizes balancing acceptance and change, teaching clients skills in four core areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

DBT combines individual therapy with group skills training, where clients practice techniques to stay present, manage crises without making situations worse, regulate overwhelming emotions, and communicate their needs effectively while maintaining healthy relationships. This approach helps individuals build resilience, reduce self-destructive behaviors, and create a life worth living by fostering self-compassion and practical coping strategies for daily challenges.
