Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a form of psychotherapy that helps individuals develop psychological flexibility by teaching them to accept difficult thoughts and feelings rather than trying to eliminate or avoid them. ACT encourages clients to live in alignment with their core values while acknowledging the presence of pain or discomfort. Through mindfulness practices and behavioral commitment, clients learn to observe their internal experiences without judgment and take purposeful actions that move them toward a meaningful and fulfilling life

.

ACT focuses on six core processes—acceptance, cognitive defusion, being present, self-as-context, values clarification, and committed action—to help individuals break free from unhelpful patterns of avoidance and struggle. Instead of striving for symptom elimination alone, ACT promotes living a rich, value-driven life despite emotional challenges, making it effective for anxiety, depression, chronic pain, and other mental health conditions.
